The aim of this session is to deal with migratory flows and the regulations of labour and circular migration, both in the context of the European Union and bordering countries, with special reference to the Spanish cases and those of the countries in the project's cooperation area. In addition to knowing the political, social and institutional contexts of labour migration between Europe and African countries.

SESSION 2. Current context of migration and labour routes between Mauritania, Gambia and Senegal and the Canary Islands.

This session will address the migratory routes and flows to the Canary Islands from Gambia, Mauritania and Senegal, contemplating their current characteristics, with emphasis on their historical and socio-economic aspects. It will also analyse the institutional, political, social, institutional collaboration and civil society contexts of labour migration between these territories and the experiences developed, analysing successes and mistakes, as well as the keys to the possible future management of circular labour migration.

SESSION 3. Labour opportunities and needs for circular migration
Friday 31 October 2025.

The third session aims to provide an overview of the labour market in the territories of the cooperation space, with an emphasis on shared needs, especially with regard to training. It also seeks to explore the labour opportunities and needs of the public and private sectors; the opportunity environments for bilateral circular migration; the legal context in the field of training; as well as to identify good training practices for successful circular migration, considering both the socio-training and legal context of training opportunities.

Shared and necessary training on both sides.
Job opportunities and needs in the public context.
Job opportunities and needs in the private context.
Opportunity environments for bilateral circular migration.

SESSION 4. Migration narratives on regular circular migration on both sides of the border
Friday 31 October 2025.

The fourth session deals with the different existing narratives on labour and non-labour migration, both from the sending and receiving territories, specifically from the Canary Islands and European perspective. It also seeks to talk about the narratives of the construction of useful training itineraries on both shores and those linked to the significant training of migrants. We are also looking for themes that raise the combination of need, opportunity and expectations of circular migration; as well as other models of narrative construction, positive narratives, good practices; as well as data, realities, hoaxes and manipulations in migratory narratives.

The current African narrative on migration, labour and non-labour.
The current European narrative on labour and non-labour migration.
The current Canarian narrative on labour and non-labour migration.
Narratives for the construction of useful training itineraries on both sides.
Narratives linked to the meaningful empowerment of migrants.
The combination of need, opportunity and expectations in circular migration.
Constructing alternative narratives.
Good practices of constructive narratives in circular migration.
Workshops on positive migration narratives.
Data, realities, hoaxes and manipulations in migration narratives.
Deadline and submission of proposals:
Las propuestas podrán remitirse del 30 de junio al 21 de julio de 2025.
In order to be able to send papers, it will be necessary to register for the conference on the conference website.
Material content and evaluation:
The Scientific Committee will evaluate the proposals according to the following criteria:
1. Relevance and timeliness in relation to the overall project theme.
2. Relevance of the chosen topic to the theme of the session.
3. Quality of the approach developed in the proposal.
4. Originality of the proposal.
The Scientific Committee will select three paper proposals for oral presentation. A maximum of three alternate proposals will also be selected for oral presentation per Session. A decision on this matter will be taken by the Scientific Committee by 28 July 2025 at the latest by e-mail (please make sure to enter a valid e-mail address) and will be communicated:
a) The selection of the proposal to be presented orally at the Conference.
b) The selection of the proposal without oral presentation and as an alternate. These alternate papers will be able to participate with their work in the final publication of the Congress.
